Is polyester or cotton better for curtains?

A lot of people are familiar with both polyester and cotton because they are both often used as fabrics for fashion and home decor. However, a lot of man-made fabrics had a bad reputation during the 60s and 70s due to clothing made from polyesters that aren’t breathable like they are now.

Polyester Velvet Fabric

People often go for the fabric that is priced just right for the budget that they currently have but, if you are not tight on your budget and are ready to splurge to get the perfect thickness, weight, and other essential characteristics of a curtain. Both polyester and cotton are good fabrics to use for curtains, but they are both good to use depending on how you want your curtain and room to look and feel.

Since cotton is a versatile fabric, it is used to achieve a range of styles and needs to be properly hanged since it is a light fabric to be able to fall as desired. It has a clean look and feels and suits traditional or modern styles. Another common curtain fabric is called polyester because of its durability plus easy to clean fabric. It is also resistant to wrinkling, and because of its affordable price, a lot of people are using it for their curtains in their bedrooms or living rooms but avoids using it in kitchens as polyester is flammable and hinders airflow.

Polyesters are also easy to clean, but they can easily absorb odours, and that is one of the reasons why they aren’t used in kitchens. Cotton is also easy to clean but must be gently washed.

The pros and cons of these fabrics vary differently. For example, the pros of polyesters are it is durable and strong, does not fade easily or deteriorate quickly, inexpensive, a great insulator, less likely to get wrinkled, and anti-bacteria. The only con that polyesters have is that they can distort when hot ironed.

Cotton also has its pros and cons and its pros are it is biodegradable and organic fabric, and strong and absorbent. However, they are susceptible to mildew, shrinks when washed for the first time, and wears more quickly when exposed to the sun.
