How do I attach lining to curtains?

Curtains have different colours, patterns, and fabrics, they also have various linings. Some curtains come with regular lining and special lining.

Learn How To Add Lining To Your Curtains

Sometimes, curtains do not have linings at all.

Are linings important in curtains?

Well, linings offer many benefits. Read on as Yorkshire Fabric Shop lists down some of the advantages of having a lining to your curtains.

1. Controls Noise and Insulation
If you want to eliminate some amounts of noise in your house, curtain linings can help you. Please take note that linings do not get rid of the noise entirely; instead, they help in minimising noise.

Another benefit of curtain lining is insulation. Curtains trap the heat between the fabric and lining. In this way, rooms remain warm in winters and cold in summers.

2. Offers Privacy
A specific lining called ‘blackout linings’ give more privacy than other window coverings. Putting this type of lining is vital if your room is located beside the road or market. Curtain linings can hide the interior of your room and house from the outside world.

Aside from giving privacy, linings can also block certain amounts of light. If you prefer sleeping without lights, curtain linings can help you have a sound sleep.

3. Adds Style
Some curtains lack the design and elegance that most people desire. Adding linings can add a certain style to the interiors. Adding lining is a great way to have that glamourous look that normal curtains may not offer.

Now that you know some of the benefits of linings let us discuss how you can attach linings to curtains.

1. Lay the curtain on a flat surface. Place the top of the curtain in front of you.
2. Measure the curtain on all sides.
3. Put an additional 3 1/2 inches to the width and 3 inches to the length. Cut the lining.
4. Flip the edge of the length over ¾ two times and edge stitch it.
5. Turn the lining’s bottom edge for 2 inches to the opposite side and then press.
6. Rotate the top edge over to the opposite side for ½ inch.
7. Lay the lining then overlap the lining’s top edge and the curtain’s bottom edge by 1/8 inch. Overlap the seams on the side for 1/8 inch. You can hand-sew or use a sewing machine to attach the lining to the curtain.
8. Pin down the edges on the side. Again, you can hand sew or use a machine for the lining.
9. Press the seams.
10. Hang the curtain.

Adding lining can make your curtain more beautiful and durable.

Remember that adding a lining to your curtain requires time, planning, and patience. It may be challenging at first, but once you are finished, you will see how linings can help you in the long run.
