We have outgrown our old warehouse within a matter of months and with our plans to introduce more fabric we needed more space. So we have moved to Carlinghow Mills on Bradford Road, Batley.

Our address is :

Unit C9A Carlinghow Mills

499 Bradford Road

Batley

WF17 8LN

Contact numbers will remain the same.

Yorkshire Fabric Shop are on the 1st floor – so there will be steps to climb. All our fabric is stacked on shelves so we are more of a fabric warehouse than a fabric retail shop. We advise all customers to view on our website and pick out fabrics from the website with the names or codes before coming down so you can best see and feel the fabrics.

Our new home has a rich history of spinning of yarn and sorting of fabric rags. This is an old picture we have found of the current mill we are in.

A brief history of Carlinghow Mills : The Carlinghow Mills were established in 1826 for spinning, but not weaving. Weaving sheds (on the left side of the picture) were build circa 1875. This eight acre complex was continually being added to. The building in the foreground was build in 1919.

Yorkshire Fabric Shop will be moving to a bigger warehouse from Friday 11th September. We would have been there a month ago but thanks to BT who takes for ever to install a new line we should finally have internet and a phone line working this Friday.

Yorkshire Fabric Shop’s new address is :

Unit 12 Smithies Mill Industrial Estate

Bradford Road, Birstall

West Yorkshire, WF17 8NS

Fingers crossed our numbers will remain the same as on the website.

We have only moved 2 mils away from our current warehouse in Batley.

Our warehouse shop will be stocked up with plenty more upholstery fabric and curtain fabrics so do come along. If you are coming to visit us, the best way to guide you to us is, once you near to us look for the Subway sandwich shop, we are behind there.

We are down the road from Ikea / Showcase Cinemas of Leeds and Junction 27 on M62.

So do bear with us this week and next week when you order fabrics from us as we will be trying to settle into our new home.

See you soon x

Yorkshire Fabric Shops Tips When Travelling To Europe

Venice 2015

Venice 2015

  1. Apply for a European Health Insurance Card – in an emergency you can use a hospital in participating European countries hospitals like our NHS.
  2. Travel Insurance – Just for your peace at mind.
  3. If hiring a rental car make sure you have European cover just in case something happens to your car whilst ravelling. Also ask if you will be given the same size car if yours break down. Last thing you want is a smaller seat car if you have a 7 seater like we did.
  4. When booking a ferry crossing (we went by DFDS, who were cheaper than P&O Ferries) book a flexi ticket which allows you to cross 72 hours either way of your booking. We ended up coming a day later and this saved us money as we didn’t have to buy another ticket to cross over.
  5. Take Euros in currency before you travel, but don’t exchange all your money as you get a better rate in the country itself. Although the exchange rate was better on board the ferry than Thomas Cook in Leeds.
  6. Make sure you take a credit card. Some petrol stations during night time only accept cards when you fuel up as they are not manned. This brings up my next tip ;
  7. When hiring a car be sure you know how to open the fuel cap. We ended up at 4am in France looking at how to open the fuel cap for 10 minutes. It ended up being underneath the driver’s seat !
  8. If travelling with kids (or adults) take a cooler box and stock up with drinks and fill it up with ice. You will save a lot of money buying cold drinks and you can always get free ice to re fill from restaurants and bars etc.
  9. For places to stay try a new app called Air BNB. You can rent from flats to houses that people actually known. We found this app really useful as we stayed at places we would never have stayed before. Some homes have better views than hotels. Definitely check out this app before you travel or book into a hotel, you will save money also.
  10. Internet & Wifi – We know from first hand we can’t enjoy our holiday without being connected to the World. This was a dilemma for us even before we set off and we never really found a solution. Firstly networks like Vodaphone and EE provides a European service however Tesco mobile has no solutions for customer travelling to Europe, so this was a setback. Then we looked at the 3 network, but here we had to sign up to a 1 month contract and only one user at a time could be connected and we had 4 devices also not all countries we were going to visit would be working. In the end we got tired of searching for internet where it would work everywhere and waited for wifi at the places we stayed. We did look into the dongle that you can get internet everywhere but we just run out of time to order it, maybe next time.
  11. If you are travelling North to South of France, avoid using toll road, this turned out to be an expensive (around £300) lesson for us. Our UK road tax is like loose change compared to when paying toll chargers.

Our last tip is, dont plan too much and just go and get out there, meet amazing people and see new things.
